What Is The Meaning Or Definition Of Aromantic / Aromanticism:

The term “aromantic” is derived from “a,” which means “the opposite,” and “romantic,” which means “related to romance,” hence, “a-romantic” literally means “no romantic attraction or interest in any sex or genders, but may have sexual attraction or interest.”

The term “aromantic” or “aromanticism” is a romantic orientation that is used to describe people who experience little or no romantic attraction to others, or has a lack of interest in romantic relationships or behavior, regardless of sex, gender, or situation.

Aromantic people are basically non-romantic, they lack any kind of romantic attraction to another person, but they can be sexually attracted to someone. Aromantic people experience no romantic attraction or romantic desires towards other people, and there is a complete disinterest in anything even remotely related to romance.

Aromantic may be used as an umbrella term for other emotional or romantic attractions such as biromantic, demiromantic, etc. Aromantics is sometimes abbreviated to “aro,” pronounced like “arrow.”

Aromanticism exists in a range of people who experience no romantic attraction or have no romantic desires, to those who experience low levels of romanticism, or those who experience romantic attraction only under specific conditions. Many of these have different places on the continuum and have their own identity labels, such as demiromantic, etc.

Aromantic people seek romantic relationships for a number of reasons, including friendship, companionship, affection, and intimacy. Aromantic people generally wish to participate in typical relationship activities that are normally associated with dating and love, engaging in things like kissing, making out, etc, but probably not holding hands, hugging, snuggling, cuddling, going out, gift-giving, passing love notes, walking on the beach, etc.

Aromantic people are not necessarily incapable of feeling being in love. For instance, they may still feel familial love towards their family, or platonic love towards friends.

Some aromantic people may be able to appreciate the kind of love or romance that is showcased in popular cultures, such as in romantic movies, romantic novels, or romantic songs, but only indirectly or empathetically. They do not habitually experience such romantic feelings themselves.

An aromantic person may find other people to be sexually attractive, but they have no romantic feelings towards them. Hence, they can still be in a romantic relationship, but they just do not experience a romantic attraction to their partner.

The term “apothi” is a romantic orientation that is used to describe people who experience being aromantic and asexual, that is, not experiencing any romantic or sexual feelings. These are aromantic and asexual people who are repulsed by romance and sex.
