"It Is What It Is Is" An Idiomatic Phrase Or Proverbial Saying Which Means An Expression That Is Normally Used To Express Frustration Over Not Being Able To Change The Circumstances Of A Particular Situation

What Is Meaning And Definition Of It Is What It Is: The phrase "It Is What It Is" means one really doesn’t give a damn about something, it is just another way of saying "that's just the way things are going to be, whether you like it or not." This phrase is a cliche or a quintessential colloquialism that is used in many different situations and in many different ways in all walks of life which means things are going to be the way they are, take it or leave it, your choice.  The literal meaning of this phrase is one of passive acceptance of a situation that is not favorable or ideal or one that cant be changed and is less than perfect. It's an absurd statement, which is meant to convey helplessness, uselessness, meaninglessness, pointlessness, or something that may not have any absolute solution.  It is a phrase that many people use to describe a situation, place, or thing that they think no one has any control over, and hence, trying to change things or people’s minds about it is useless as it won’t result in anything. It is a polite way of saying that "just learn to accept it, don’t overanalyze things, things are not going to change, let's forget about it and move on, so either deal with it, or get off my back."  This phrase also makes us understand the bitter reality of life that some things can never be changed, and it is in the best interests of all parties involved to accept things just the way they are and try not to alter it because that is going to be nearly impossible. This phrase can also have a more aggressive or assertive stance, which puts the speaker in a dominant position or status.  It is what some people say they don’t have logical reasoning of the situation at hand, to succumb to an inevitable situation. It is more of an acceptance of an unavoidable situation in which one has no control over.  It is also a simple way to put forth an unpleasant situation that is hard to explain, and there is no real resolution to it. For instance, an apple can never be orange, even if you wish, no matter how hard you try, and hence, it is best to accept it like an apple, and try not to convert it into an orange.  It is mostly used in the business or the cooperate world, but is also used in personal or family matters. People should avoid using it as a means to end an actual intellectual or stimulating conversation.  It can also state the obvious or a state of helplessness, and it is a humble acceptance to the circumstances surrounding an unfavorable situation that is beyond anyone's control. It means things are going to be the way they are, the circumstances may not be perfect, but it is what it is.  This phrase is sometimes used to transition to some other more positive issue, and as a means to turn a negative into a somewhat positive. It is used to describe something that can not be changed, or does not need to be changed, or will not be changed, or is not important enough to waste time to change it, and something that can be postponed for now.
