What Is The Meaning Or Definition Of Exogamy Or Exogamous Marriages And Relationships: Exogamy or exogamous means or is defined as the practice or social norm of marrying someone outside one's particular social group, caste, or ethnicity. Rejecting or declining those from within as not suitable for marriage and even for engaging in other types of personal or intimate relationships. Exogamy Is Also Known As Outbreeding: Exogamy, which is biologically known as outbreeding, is the practice of marrying outside of one's social group, tribe, class, ethnicity, or unit. The word "exogamy" comes from the Greek word "exo- + gamos," which literally means "outside marriage." Exogamy Is Marrying Outside: Exogamy is a rule of marriage in which an individual has to marry outside their own group as it prohibits marrying within the group. Exogamy is marriage outside the group, and the group may be defined on the basis of caste, class, tribe, race, village, religious group, etc. Exogamy Does Not Allow Marriages Within A Social Group: In exogamous groups, marriage within one's group may be forbidden. There are some groups that observe exogamy very seriously as an inherent part of their value system, culture, traditions, or religious beliefs. Exogamy Discourages Bonding Within A Social Group: Exogamy discourages group personal bonding and affiliation as it demotes group solidarity and unity. The opposite of exogamy is endogamy, which means marriage to someone inside the same group.
