What Is The Meaning Or Definition Of Drag King Drag Queen:

The term “drag king or drag queen” is derived from “drag,” which means “drama in this context,” and “king or queen,” which means “related to male or female,” hence, “drag-king or drag-queen” literally means “a straight person performing theatrically as the opposite gender.”

The term “drag” is a slur or slang that is used to describe a person, often a straight and cisgender man or woman, who appears as their opposite sex, who performs masculine or feminine gender theatrically, with exaggerated traits such as excessive make-up or over-sexualized dressing, generally in reference to an act or performance on stage, and has no implications regarding gender identity.

A “drag” performs parody gender for an audience, generally for entertainment value. Drag performers do not necessarily have to identify with the gender that they are parodying.

Some drag kings and drag queens are transgender, but the terms are not used interchangeably. Drag is most commonly used to refer to cross-dressing performers, but anyone of any gender can do any form of drag, and doing a “drag” does not necessarily have any connection with one’s sex assigned at birth, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
