The term “intergender” is derived from “inter,” which means “mixed,” and “gender,” which means “related to gender,” hence, “inter-gender” literally means “someone whose gender identity is a mixture of male and female.”

The term “intergender” is used to describe a person who identifies with a gender that is somewhere between the binary genders of male/masculine and female/feminine, and such a person identifies across or beyond the mere male or female gender ideals, one who physically, emotionally, psychologically, or spiritually experiences elements of either or both genders.
