What Is The Meaning Or Definition Of Marital Status:

The marital status of a person means their current status of marriage or being married. The marital status of a person makes a lot of difference. It defines the status of a person in society as well as the government or the legal system. It also has an impact on receiving benefits as well as when it comes to filing taxes. It also plays a factor in insurance and getting credit. It is an influential demographic that is considered by the census and to a last group of institutions.

Different Marital Status Options:

Never Married Or Single:

Never married people are those who have never been married before. Single people are those who are now not married but may have been previously married and divorced. Both divorced and widowed would come under single status. Even never married people would fall under the single status.

Married:

Married simply means that a couple is legally married. There are two types of married status. One is called married, spouse present, which means that the married couple is living in the same household. The other is called married, spouse absent, which means the married couple is living apart due to reason another than marital discord, such as working in different places or military service. There is another way the married status is divided into two parts. One is the married status as a married couple living together by ceremony or common law. The other is living apart but not legally separated or divorced.

Widowed:

Widowed refers to a person whose spouse has died and who has not remarried. If a widowed person married again, then he or she would no longer be called a widow.

Divorced Or Separated:

Divorced couples are those who were once married, but have now obtained a legal decree of divorce. Separated couples are those who were once married, but have now either obtained a legal separation or are living apart due to marital discord and are actively seeking a divorce.
