What Is The Meaning Or Definition Of Asexual / Asexuality:

The term “asexual” is derived from “a,” which means “the opposite,” and “sexual,” which means “related to sex,” hence, “a-sexual” literally means “no sexual attraction or interest in any sex or genders, but may have romantic attraction or interest.”

The term “asexual” or “asexuality” is used to describe people who experience little to no sexual attraction to anyone regardless of gender or sexual orientation, but still might have intellectual or emotional relationships.

Asexual people are anti-sexual, and are not sexually attracted to any gender as they have no desire or interest in engaging in any kind of sexual activities. However, asexuals may still wish to be part of a romantic relationship.

Asexual people can have a non-sexual but romantic attraction or feelings for people of one or multiple genders, and the longevity of those feelings can vary from person to person. Asexual people tend to appreciate hugs, cuddles, light touches, and human companionship, but they do not go into any kind of relationship beyond that because they lack the desire or physical need for anything sexual.

Asexual people often choose to be in a relationship to create a kind of asexual relationship. So when an asexual person and a sexual person are in a relationship, they can choose to be completely sexless, or the asexual partner can bend the rules by engaging in sex occasionally under limited circumstances, or they can agree to participate in semi-asexual or semi-sexual behavior by engaging in things like light make-out sessions to find a middle ground that is acceptable to both partner.

Asexuals lack sexual attraction or sexual desire as they derive no pleasure when they engage in sexual activities. They also don’t feel sexually attracted to a person even if they have emotional, romantic feelings for that person because they may have romantic desires but without the actual act of sexual contact.

Asexuality is a complete lack of sexual attraction to others or very low interest in or desire for sexual activity with anyone. Such a situation does not mean that they are sexually dysfunctional; it’s just that they have no desire for sex.

Asexuality is not a pledge of abstinence; instead, it is an entire identity that is based on a lack of sexual thoughts, desires, attitudes, or feelings towards others. Asexuality, in general, is different from abstention from sexual activity and from celibacy altogether, which is more like deliberate abstention from sexual activity, in spite of having sexual desires.

Asexuality is not the same as celibacy, which is the willful decision to not act on sexual feelings, whereas, asexuals, while not like a sexual person, are quite capable of having a loving, affectionate, and romantic connection with others. Asexuality is also not the same as abstinence, which is a choice to abstain from sexual activity despite having a sex drive, whereas, asexuals have a lack of sexual attraction to either sex and have no sex drive.

Asexuality is a broad spectrum of sexual orientations that are generally characterized by feeling varying degrees of sexual attraction or desire. It includes people who neither experience any sexual attraction nor has any desire for sex, to those who experience very low levels of sexual attraction, and that too only in rare cases after establishing a strong bond.

Not every asexual person has an equal amount of sexual desires. Some asexuals are in romantic relationships where they sometimes desire sexual activities, some are in romantic relationships where they never desire for sexual activities, and some are not in any kind of romantic relationships at all.

The simplest way to define asexuality literally is that a person is anti-sexual, which means they neither want nor need sexual contact with another person to feel satisfied or fulfilled. Asexuals are not interested in, and do not desire sexual activity, either within a relationship, or outside of a relationship.

There are many common misconceptions surrounding asexuality, such as that they sometimes enjoy sex, or that there is something abnormal about them, but the truth is that asexuals are normal human beings who are just as capable as anyone else. Being asexual does not define someone as having a medical problem or any kind of psychological problem relating to others socially.

Asexuality is simply a lack of sexual desire or attraction to anyone, and is not considered a hindrance to normal life. Asexuality has been associated with hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD), which implies a general lack of sexual attraction to almost anyone.

Asexuality exists in people who experience no sexual attraction or have any desire for sex, to those who experience relatively low levels, to those who feel sexual attraction only under specific conditions. Many of these different types have their own identity labels, such as demisexual.

Note that one can also be aromantic, and one does not necessarily have to be asexual and aromantic at the same time.

Sometimes the term or the slang, ace (singular) or aces (plural), is used to describe asexuals. Kalossexual is also a type of asexual, who has the desire to have a sexual relationship but not being able to feel sexual attraction, part of the ace spectrum.
