What Is The Meaning Or Definition Of Transgender Person:

The term “transgender” is derived from “trans,” which means “across from or on the other side of,” and “gender,” which means “related to gender,” hence, “trans-gender” literally means “a person who feels like the opposite gender.”

The term “transgender” is used to describe a person whose gender identity does not match their gender assigned at birth, and is also used as an umbrella term for a wide range of people with non-binary genders.

For instance, transgender is someone who was assigned female at birth, but who identifies as male. Likewise, it is someone who was assigned male at birth, but who identifies as female.

In other words, transgender are people whose gender assigned at birth and gender identity do not match in a predictable way, or someone who has transitioned, or is transitioning, from living life as one gender to another. The term transgender is not indicative of gender orientation, sexual expression, hormonal makeup, or physical anatomy, but how one is perceived in society in real life.

Transgender may also include people who are not exclusively masculine or feminine, that is, people who are non-binary or genderqueer, including bigender, pangender, genderfluid, or agender. Transgender people may choose to identify as heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, or asexual, or may reject putting a label on their sexual orientation.

Some transgender people who desire medical treatment or surgery to transition from one sex to another identify as transsexual, being a transgender person is independent of sexual orientation. The term transgender is different from intersex, a term that describes people born with physical sex characteristics that do not fit typical binary notions of male or female genitals.

The opposite of transgender is cisgender, which defines a person whose gender identity or expression matches their assigned sex. The level to which a person may feel real, genuine, and comfortable within their outer appearance, and accept their authentic identity has been called transgender congruence.

Many transgender people go through gender dysphoria, and some opt for medical treatments such as hormone replacement therapy, sex reassignment surgery, or psychotherapy. It needs to be noted that not all transgender people want to get these treatments.
